Monaco Yacht Show 2010 Brief
   Source£ºSite
have sounded, signalling the end of yet another successful Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), this one, perhaps the biggest and best in the history of the event. The World¡¯s premier superyacht show has, this year, celebrated its twentieth outing and has done so in great style.

The Monaco Yacht Show represents the perfect forum for the global yachting community. In one magical place, for four days, 28,000 people from all over the world gathered to see and discuss superyachts, products and services. Enjoyable and entertaining, the Show is both, a Business-to-Business and a Business to Consumer event for the international yachting communities seeking out quality of content and contact.

While the fun and excitement is non-stop, the Show offers yachting professionals a serious opportunity to engage in an intense exchange of information throughout the days and nights.  In hotels and restaurants, at the Monaco Yacht Club, aboard superyachts and on 500 exhibitors¡¯ stands, the process goes forward against one of the world¡¯s most glamorous backdrops.

This year more than 100 superyachts from 25 to 90 meters LOA lined the docks inside the Principality¡¯s impressive Port Hercules making this year¡¯s show the superyacht calendar¡¯s most prestigious events. As well as the yachts in the harbour there were over 100 more at anchor in the bay outside the breakwater each playing host to their Owners while they visited the Show. Maltese Falcon, Twizzle, Bluebird, Pearle Bleu, Idol, Ulysses and RS Eden were just some of the names that make superyacht spotters salivate.

The Monaco Yacht Show attracts sponsors whose quality products cater for the same elite international clients and benefit from association with this prestigious show. Returning for the second year as one of the two official sponsors, exclusive watchmakers Ulysse Nardin, used the Show to unveil their new limited edition ¡®Monaco Y.S.¡¯ 2010 Marine Diver watch. It was greeted with great enthusiasm and orders were received for three times more pieces than are available.  Also recognising the value of its association with the Show, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority returned again as a leading sponsor.

With the help of partners many special services for exhibitors and visitors were available at the Show. When IT and office services were needed, the Business Centre sponsored by Eurocopter was available, while Transport Malta supported the Press centre and Lounge open to the world¡¯s media professionals and visitors. During the day, the air-conditioned Parvis Piscine was the place to find a spot to relax in, refresh or hold a meeting. The Crystal Lounge created in partnership with Baccarat was an oasis of calm and the Champagne Bar, where Lanson poured beverages, bubbled with activity. VIP visitors were shuttled to and from the Show by BMW chauffeurs driving the latest in eco friendly luxury courtesy cars, the ActiveHybrid 7.

Nor did organisers neglect their social responsibilities. Again this year they donated 50% of all entrance ticket sales, equating to some €51,500, to the Monaco Association against the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (Association Mon¨¦gasque contre les Myopathies), a locally based charity supported each year by MYS since 2001.

Making a commitment against deforestation, the Prince Albert II Foundation launched the ¡°Wood Forever¡± project during the Monaco Yacht Show. A € 37,000 donation was given to His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco by the organisers during his visit to the Show. It will be used to better educate all those involved in the yachting market, to only use wood certified as originating from sustainably-managed forests and stop deforestation. Monaco Yacht Show have pledged they will continue to support the Foundation in future years.

While his Serene Highness toured the MYS, he boarded two of the superyachts that received special accolades at the Show. The first was Motor Yacht Exuma, a 50 metre  vessel awarded the RINA Green Plus Platinum trophy for a building beyond the minimum levels required by international regulations governing environmental protection. He also visited SY Panthalassa a 56 metre  yacht built by Perini Navi and winner of the Prix du Design 2010 for her innovations in naval architecture and interior design.

HSH Prince Albert II was himself the recipient of an honour receiving the 2010 SeaKeeper Award, exactly one hundred years after his own great grandfather and namesake, Prince Albert I, founded what is now the science of oceanography.

Top industry specialists were positive in their praise for the Monaco Yacht Show. Michael Bremen, Sales Director, L¨¹rssen Yachts, Germany said, ¡°I was cautiously optimistic before the show, and the good news is now as it draws to a close I am still cautiously optimistic.¡±

Stephen Hills, Managing Director, Devonport Yachts, UK said, ¡°We received more new leads than I expected at Monaco and that is a very good sign indeed.¡±

Visiting the MYS from the USA, John Dane III, President of Trinity Yachts, said, ¡°The industry has seen a great improvement over the last 20 months, and we have seen many more potential clients here. The light at the end of tunnel might no longer be the headlights of a train.¡±

Fiona Maureso, the newly appointed Head of Charter Division, at YPI said, ¡°This is not a charter show but it is one of the few shows that potential charter guests can get to see the yachts.  Clients love to come to Monaco and it is much better than previous years.¡±

Exhibitors came from 37 countries around the world.  Among the 500 exhibitors displaying their wares was Marco Foglizzo, of Foglizzo Custom Leather in Italy.  He said, ¡°Last year we got the impression people coming to our stand were dreaming, this year the enquiries are real.  There is definitely a better quality of potential projects.¡±

Rene van der Velden of Rene van der Velden Yacht Design in The Netherlands had a stand at the Show as usual.  He said, ¡°It is 200% better than last year, spirits are up and clients are willing to commission things again.  If in the past it was a 45 metre superyacht, now it might be a 38 metre boat.¡±

From the UK, a country that fielded no fewer than 78 exhibitors, was Bill Dixon the Managing Director of Dixon Yacht Design. He said, ¡°It is more positive this year at the Show.  I have had good news but it would be tempting fate to say anything else right now.¡±

Top International brokers were equally praising the Monaco Yacht Show and its ability to bring together vendor and buyer. Miriam Cain, Communications Manager, Camper & Nicholsons, UK said,

¡°The Monaco Yacht Show was for us one of the busiest on record and we welcomed a large number of existing and new clients.  All our yachts on display received good interest, and the feeling is that the market overall continues, albeit slowly, to improve.¡± Toby Walker, Director of Sales, with the same company added, ¡°We certainly have two or three pending negotiations from the show and the true result will be in the number of sales concluded and charters booked following last week¡¯s display.¡±

Patrick Coote, Marketing Director, Fraser Yachts in Monaco was equally enthusiastic saying, ¡°Wow, what a change from 2009, a truly upbeat and positive show with plenty of qualified buyers, serious discussions, realistic prices and positive negotiations. The real outcome will only be determined over the next few weeks but our whole team left the show on a high, enthused by the quality and quantity of enquiries.¡±

Burgess headquartered in London experienced high attendance levels of both existing and new clients from all geographical areas including a high proportion of visitors from the UAE. Alev Karagulle Director of Marketing and Communications probably best summed up the show when she said, ¡°The acid test of the success of a boat show is never immediate and our detailed analysis of the show has yet to be conducted, but our large team of brokers were kept extremely busy with qualified client viewings and consultations throughout the four days. We have every reason to believe that the Monaco Show this year continues to be a key event in supporting our successful performance in this challenging market environment.¡±

With another successful Monaco Yacht Show over, exhibitions stands cleared away, additional docks removed and most of the superyachts departed it might be time for the Show organisers to have a break.  Instead they are already planning a bigger and better MYS for 2011 when the Show comes of age and celebrates its 21st Birthday.

21st Monaco Yacht Show will be held from 21st to 24th September 2011, Port Hercules, Principality of Monaco

British success at the 2010 Monaco Yacht Show

October 01, 2010

British excellence was top of the agenda at the Monaco Yacht Show last week.  Seventy seven UK companies were exhibited at the largest superyacht event, which ran from Wednesday 22 to Saturday 25 September, with 19 in a dedicated Superyacht UK Pavilion.

Their presence at Monaco was accompanied by the launch of a new publication, Destination UK, which was very well received by yacht crew and industry alike.   The guide aims to promote British excellence in this sector and demonstrate everything there is on offer, to a captive audience of captains, buyers and owners.

Their presence at Monaco was accompanied by the launch of a new publication, Destination UK, which was very well received by yacht crew and industry alike.   The guide aims to promote British excellence in this sector and demonstrate everything there is on offer, to a captive audience of captains, buyers and owners.  SYUK, an association within the British Marine Federation, also held a successful champagne reception on Thursday 23 September with approximately 300 guests attending including delegates from previous SYUK tours, buyers and other industry contacts.

The UK superyacht industry is now worth just over £420 million a year according to latest survey results, announced at the start of the Monaco Yacht Show, which is an increase of 3% on the previous year¡¯s revenue. For further survey results click HERE.

Tom Chant, International Development Manager at British Marine Federation said: ¡°For the last 10 years Superyacht UK has organised a UK pavilion to collectively promote British Excellence with large and small businesses.  The Pavilion, which was once again a great success, includes a bar and networking area, whilst SYUK provides support to the exhibiting companies through stand design and promotion.¡±

¡°After an initial slow start the Monaco Yacht Show closed with a very positive outlook for the future. We met both existing and new customers, most of them discussing projects that were actually going ahead. We exhibited a new controllable pitch propeller system for the first time and received very positive interest, proving the value of this show for bringing new product into this unique market.  The support from the excellent BMF personnel and the impressive Superyacht UK Pavilion helped Bruntons project a very professional image to our existing and potential customers.¡± Adrian Miles, Bruntons Propellers

¡°The 2010 Monaco show was very positive for BMT Nigel Gee and we have come home with numerous leads to follow and a good level of enquiries to prepare quotations for. Whilst it will be some time before we can tell if enquiries will turn into orders, the mood at the show was vastly improved over 2009 and we sense the market starting to pick up.  Once again we were very lucky to have the full support of the Superyacht UK team who are all a credit to the BMF. Exhibiting with SYUK enables us to focus fully on the development of business, with full confidence that all matters relating to exhibiting at the show are taken care of.¡±  James Roy, Yacht Design Director

¡°The Monaco Yacht  Show this year has been entirely different to previous years. This year we have seen many friends and previous students all of whom seem to be saying that their yacht is working more charters or the Boss is starting to spend more time on the yacht. Some have also been talking about boat sales to prepare for the delivery of a new larger yacht in the next 12 ¨C 18 months. This year we employed a number of new staff to deliver the wide range of courses we offer and in addition employed an Installation and Design IBS Manager. In the very short time he has been with us we have, from this Monaco Yacht Show, ¡°in principal¡° agreements to provide the design, installation and commissioning of bridges for two new large yachts. Once again, with the support of Superyacht UK, I consider the Show to be a great success so much so we have already booked a stand for next year.¡± Capt. Azimut Grande Yacht Collection at the Monaco Yacht Show 2010

September 22, 2010

The Azimut ¡°Grande¡± Yacht Collection

The Grande Collection is the semi-customizable megayacht family in the over 100 feet segment built by Azimut Yachts in keeping with a well-defined design and construction philosophy. Owners of the Grande Collection models can build the boats of their dreams by taking an active part in fitting them out starting from the drawing board, even before construction commences at the Viareggio shipyard.

A new stand
Access to the  Azimut Yachts ¡°Grande¡± Collection at the Monaco Yacht Show is gained at the Azimut Yachts stand. It has been totally renovated and built according to an innovative concept that welcomes and accompanies customers as they walk into their dream, even before leaving the dock. Attention devoted to customers, that propensity to surround boat owners with all the comforts while they are still ashore, is one of the strong points of Azimut Yachts.

Azimut Grande 120SL Master Suite

In the water
The Azimut  Grande Collection is presented in its own dedicated catalogue, but it is above all well represented in the water by one of the top models, the Azimut 105 motoryacht, which welcomes aboard guests and customers in its unprecedented role of gallery. When aboard the Azimut 105 Yacht , not only can you bask in the floorspace, light and airiness peculiar to this boat, but you can also view all of the new range, especially models under execution like the Azimut 100 superyacht and the Azimut Trideck Yacht.

These two projects are presented with the use of overall plans and renderings, and also through the original drawings by Stefano Righini. While the Grande 100 SuperYacht will win over more than one owner with its innovative design, the Grande Trideck, with its magnificent design and ability to make boat owners dream even before it is built, will absolutely amaze.

Azimut 105 MotorYacht - Image courtesy of Azimut

Azimut. The number one shipyard choice of boat owners for building megayachts for 12 years

This title of supremacy was awarded by the influential international magazine Show Boat.

Azimut-Benetti has been the leader in the megayacht construction industry for 12 years. That is more a fact than a certification. It is a preference that owners have shown to its style and Made in Italy quality, its innovation, and without a doubt also to the soundness of the company itself. Azimut-Benetti has always been a private group. This peculiarity has allowed its owners to constantly reinvest in its product, as well as in its search for style and technology, as it is not required to answer to controlling shareholders or holding companies.

Fabrizio Scerch

Fabrizio Scerch, 37, is without a doubt one of the key figures that listens, develops and then makes the dreams of megayacht customers come true. Just a few weeks ago Scerch was assigned the position of Sales Manager of the Azimut Yachts Grande Collection. The position of sales manager of a collection of customizable yachts is a terribly strategic one, where customer contacts must be uninterrupted and answers have to always be quick and precise. His professional experience in the field of high end durable goods, marketing and the luxury boating sector make Scerch the ideal contact person for any boat owner. Technical expertise, good coordination skills and a personal aptitude for conversation and making all personal relationships pleasing right away are what customers look for so that the production of a Grande yacht becomes the realization of a Grande dream.

Azimut 72S Yacht awarded the World Yacht Trophy for Best Layout in Cannes

September 17, 2010

Azimut Yachts, the prestigious Italian luxury yacht builder, was a centre of attention at the 2010 Cannes International Boat Show. The company had eleven stunning models on display, with their Azimut 72S yacht being amongst the winners of the World Yacht Trophies 2010. An event sponsored by LuxMedia Group, publisher of leading international yachting titles throughout the world.

Azimut 72S yacht in Cannes

Public acclaim. Representing three of the four ranges that make up the collection of Azimut Yachts, the eleven models showcased at the Cannes International Boat & Yacht Show gave a huge number of boating enthusiasts the chance to admire the prestigious Flybridge range, the S range, and the Grande range. The eleven yachts attracted an informed, international audience of visitors from 47 countries from five different continents. Guests at the Azimut Yachts stand were also treated to an exhibition of works by Serge Van de Put, the well-known Belgian artist that transforms old wheels and tyres into highly original sculptures representing humans and animals.

Azimut 72S Flydeck

Critical acclaim. The appreciation shown by yacht owners was echoed this year in the success enjoyed with the critics, as one of the models on show in Cannes, the motor yacht Azimut 72S, was awarded the World Yacht Trophy for Best Layout. The Best Layout Trophy is a tribute to the exceptional features of a sporty yacht that also boasts endless comfort. Starting with the saloon on the main deck, which is divided both conceptually and physically into two areas, a dining area that is slightly raised and that dominates the horizon, and a conversation area featuring lounges that unfold with natural class and style towards the cockpit. Curved lines embrace the outdoor saloon, with furniture to match the interiors, seemingly suspended in mid-air, while the barbecue folds away at the touch of a button, restoring the area¡¯s sleek lines and design. The yacht¡¯s streamlined, aerodynamic exterior underscores its sporty spirit, while concealing a surprisingly roomy upper deck, with enough space for a large glass roof that slides out over the saloon. The upper desk also features lounge chairs astern, a cocktail area, and a sun-deck next to the stylish, and highly innovative piloting seat.

Coming up next. The Cannes International Boat & Yacht Show came to a close with the enormous satisfaction of Azimut Yachts this year, though the spotlight won¡¯t be waning any time soon for the yacht builder. From the 22nd to 25th September, the limelight will be enjoyed by the Grande collection, with one model on display at the Monaco Boat Show, the event dedicated to megayachts. From there the spotlight will move to the Genoa International Boat Show, which this year will set the stage for the world premiere of the Magellano 50, a yacht boasting the greatest eco-compatibility imaginable, thanks to original technological solutions and the adoption of environmental protection policies, as required by RINA¡¯s GREEN PLUS standards. The new yacht bears witness to the environmental commitment of Azimut Yachts, the first big shipyard to attain ISO14001 certification thanks its cutting edge processes and approach to emissions and the processing of wood and other raw materials.

John Hodder, Head of Yacht Technologies commented: ¡°We¡¯ve had so much interest in IAS and its capabilities that we¡¯ve decided to hold an event at the show.  This will offer selected industry leaders an insight into the future of superyacht design.  This is a proven technology as SELEX has been applying IAS in naval applications for more than ten years so we feel now is the right time to launch this to the superyacht industry.¡±

In addition to the IAS seminar, Yacht Technologies will be officially launching its new security offering on its stand in the Darse Sud tent on the first day of the Monaco Yacht Show (Wednesday 22nd September 2010).
